We’re watching handwritten letters, and even handwriting itself, become less important in everyday life. There was a time when I could recognise all my friends’ handwriting at a glance. I loved that. I probably also spent far too much time trying to copy it... Phone calls are shorter, messages are quicker, and meaningful correspondence is often something we mean to get around to - but somehow don’t. S.W.A.L.K. was inspired by a bit of nostalgia for the days when we wrote the notes, penned the letters, doodled in the margins and, yes, even kissed and scented the envelopes. I love handwriting, I love handwritten post, and I love the slower, more tactile kind of connection it creates. It asks us to sit down, put our phones aside for a moment and communicate in a way that feels more personal, more considered and completely different from the quick messages we’re used to now. Joining S.W.A.L.K., whether for yourself, your child, your parent or as a gift, is a way to bring a little of that back. A monthly reason to write, share something personal and put something real into the post. My hope is that every envelope creates a little anticipation, every postcard starts a conversation, and the best replies become something worth keeping.
